1. Why is Self Storage an integral part of modern life-styles … ?

The reasons people use Self Storage are many. For most people and businesses Self Storage is the solution to the problem of lack of space, where extra space is either a prohibitive cost or not an option. We would all love extra space for all the items we have collected over the years. Some items are useful, some are kept because they are valuable as memorabilia or for sale. 2. What is the Concept of Self Storage … ?

A Self Storage facility is a building or buildings containing lockup rooms which can be hired to use for storage. Self Storage differs from warehousing in that you, the owner of the goods, retain total control over your goods after you have put them into storage. You lock your storage unit with your own padlock, and have free access to your goods at all times during the business hours of the storage facility and other times by arrangement. Naturally you pay a fee to use the storage space and are subject to the necessary regulations of the storage facility, but you pay no extra fees to get to your goods whenever you want to. You can put extra items in, take items out, move everything to a smaller or larger unit if you want to – you have genuine flexibility with Self Storage.

3. Why is it better than a Removalist storing my assets … ?

Nil or limited removalist costs. When a removalist stores your assets, you have to pay for their labour costs to remove your assets and at a later stage return your assets to the same location or to a new location. Self Storage immediately saves you money in two ways (1) you can save on labour costs as you move all your assets so no labour costs are involved. (2) Alternatively you can save significant labour costs by moving all your lighter assets and have the removalists only move the larger, heavier assets to the Self Storage facility. Your assets are securely under your control. At a Self Storage facility, your assets are securely locked in a unit that you have the only key to. Therefore there is no need for any of your assets being moved to accommodate other people’s needs to get to their own assets. Unfortunately, most removalists do not have separate secure storage space for your goods and often to make room or to get at other stored goods, your assets are regularly moved, therefore increasing the risk or potential for damage. Removalists are not set up to allow owners of assets to access stored goods as the need arises. Access is normally only available when the stored goods are delivered. Self Storage on the other hand are facilities deliberately designed to provide regular access to your unit and therefore your assets. As you rent the unit and not the number or volume of assets stored, nor access rates, you can access your unit as many times as you want, taking items away or storing more without incurring extra costs.

4. How does AAA Storage Apartments differ from other Self Storage facilities … ?

Location: AAA Storage Apartments are located on the Cnr of Campbell and Melville Street Hobart adjacent to the Hobart CBD. The alternative facilities of similar standard are located 13 to 15 km round trip from the CBD and designed on a ‘Broad-Acre’ format. A ‘Broad –Acre’ design has advantages in the storing of a vehicle, boat or trailer as the usual concept is single level ‘car-port’ style configuration. Unfortunately ‘broad-acre’ design requires space therefore storage needs to be located on the fringe of built-up areas. Broad Acre design has little protection from the weather when transferring goods into or out of storage and despite good lighting, visiting your unit after dark on a cold winter’s night can be anything but a pleasant experience.

5. What is the advantage of being next to Hobart’s CBD … ?

Time is a hidden cost of any storage. Because self-storage units are accessible both to commercial and Residential clients, actual efficient use is often governed by travel time to and from the facility. By being next to the CBD, Commercial and Residential clients can easily access their units throughout the day or on their way to or from their work place. For example let us compare AAA Storage Apartments with a competitor in the suburbs. For this exercise we will use a fictional Commercial Client located in or near the CBD and an individual living in an older style house in the Newtown- North Hobart area or a new high-rise apartment in Wapping. The Commercial Client: This client has a small storage area and a medium size retail shop front. Before AAA, this retail client had to decide well in advance what stock was required for the day, because it was a 13km round trip to the storage facilities in the suburbs. Depending on the time of day and weather conditions, the client’s driver was limited to a maximum of 2 perhaps 3 trips a day to the storage unit if the driver did not have other duties. As the driver has to make deliveries as part of his duties this retail client could usually only access his storage area once a day, therefore can only guarantee his customers next day delivery to the store or to his customers home. Now with AAA Storage Apartments, the same retail client can access his storage unit within 30 minutes turn-around time from his shop., which includes travel time and loading his goods. He is therefore able to promise his customers same-day delivery for all purchases prior to 3.00pm and his driver resources for other duties are not limited by the time required to travel to and from storage facilities in the suburbs. The Individual Client: This client whether he lives in an older style home or a high rise apartment has the same problem. The design of the accommodation provides insufficient storage space. Consequently every nook and cranny quickly attracts items that cannot be disposed of because they are required occasionally throughout the year; or are a family memento, that was passed on and it would be hurtful, or undiplomatic, to sell, give-away etc. The end result is the spacious home which once was open and airy suddenly takes on the characteristics of being ’too small’ for comfort. Now anything and every thing that is not required to be available immediately can be stored within 5 minutes drive and accessible as required. Therefore when winter arrives, instead of keeping the bikes and canoes in the garage and the car on the street, they are stored just up the road and accessible as required. Similarly during the summer, winter clothes and sports equipment are stored in the storage unit and the bikes are at home to take advantage of the good weather and daylight saving.

9. Can I access my goods whenever I want to … ?

Yes. AAA Self Storage Apartments is centrally located to provide easy customer access to their goods throughout normal opening hours. During week days normal access time is from 7.30 am to 6.30 pm. On Saturdays from 12.00 Noon to 5.00 pm. By negotiation other access times can be made available.
